Getting Started

Now that you've read about what you need to do in order to plan your painting project, it's time to get started.

Protecting from Paint

Painting can be a messy job. In order to protect surfaces and items from being ruined by the paint, be sure to:

  • Protect your plants and shrubs with a drop sheet.
  • Remove door knobs, handles and other decorative accessories from doors and windows, in order to prevent damage due to paint spillage.
  • Remove light fixtures or protect them with masking tape.

Preparing the Surfaces You Wish to Paint

It is essential that you prepare your surfaces correctly before you begin painting - this will enhance the longevity of the paint. Each Medal Paints product comes with a comprehensive set of instructions on the packaging detailing how to prepare the surfaces so be sure to spend some time looking at them before you start.
You will need to remove the dust on the walls thoroughly using a dry cloth. If the walls are very dirty they can be washed, sugar soap is an excellent product to use, remember, they must be fully dried before you can start painting.
It is preferable to buy all the paint you need at one time and in the largest possible pack size for convenience and to reduce the chances of slight colour variations between batches.
Use our paint calculator to estimate the amount of paint you will need in order to complete your project.
